OWL Cymru – Beware of Cold Callers selling at the door and around car parks
Dear Watch Member,
Further to an earlier warning Trading Standards have request that we send out a further warning to residents to beware of traders cold calling door to door and around car parks trying to sell various goods, including garden furniture, fish, power tools and generators. These sellers are using high pressure sale methods to try and get a sale and it is very difficult check the quality of the goods before purchase. In many cases the quality of the goods are poor.
Advice is always be very wary of buying goods from strangers at the door.
Advice from Trading Standards is for any contract made at your home worth £42 or more you must be given a written notice of your right to cancel the contract and this notice must include the full address of the trader. Unscrupulous traders will put false contact details on documents so avoid paying by cash. If the trader insists they will only accept cash, especially for larger items, the advice is to refuse to deal with them. Also, please ensure you lock your doors, even while you are in.
