The Little Cheesemonger Rhuddlan has just received a prestigious 3rd award for 2019. Shown here Gemma Williams owner and self confessed “Curd Nerd” pictured with Husband Gilbert and MP Chris Ruane.

A Commendation award was given at an event hosted by the Independent Retailers Confederation at the Houses of Parliament on the 5th of November.

The Little Cheesemonger was commended from a shortlist of 25 retailers from across the whole of the UK based on customer votes and judges panel.

The Best Small Shops competition is managed by the Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC). The competition celebrates the commitment and creativity of independent retailers on the UK’s High Streets and the central role they play in their local communities.

Speaking at the event, Meryl Halls, Vice Chair of the Independent Retailers Confederation, said:

“It is great to be able to celebrate the lifeblood of our high streets, our independent retailers, especially at this time of uncertainty and discord. The role of an independent retailer can seem like a thankless task but they are nothing if not survivors. Small shop owners employ local people and contribute to local communities and we are so pleased to have been able to showcase the best of independent retailing and give a vision of how engaging and exciting our high streets can be.”

The Little Cheesemonger has been open on Rhuddlan High Street for 2 and a half years and this year has also picked up awards for Best Cheesemonger in Wales by Slow Food UK and Best Specialist Food Store in North Wales.

Owner Gemma Williams said: My goal is to be THE shop in North Wales to offer delicious high standard of artisan cheese, local foods and drink with old fashioned customer service and strong links to local producers and community. These awards have given me confidence to know I’m on the right track. We were so grateful to have our MP (at the time) Chris Ruane join us for the awards on the Terrace at Parliament.
