Mayor of Rhuddlan 2021 – 22
Cllr Mike Elgin was installed as Mayor at Rhuddlan Town Council’s AGM on 13th May 2021. He expressed his thanks to all the Town Councillors for their trust in him and thanked Cllr Arwel Roberts retiring Mayor for his dedication and hard work during his 2 Years in Office.
Cllr Elgin grew up in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd near Ruthin and attended school at Llanfair DC Primary and Brynhyfryd Comprehensive. At 18 he went on to join the Metropolitan Police in London being based in the West End – Vine Street. After serving in the Met for 8 years he transferred to North Wales Police and served mainly as a Detective officer in Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and St Asaph CID offices. In 2018 he retired after a total of 37 years Police Service and now helps his wife – Marianne run her Holiday accommodation business and cares full time for his mother. Cllr Elgin has 3 daughters the youngest of whom Fleur stills lives at home with him and Marianne.
Cllr Elgin moved to live in Rhuddlan in 2006 and resides in Abbey Road. Since 2018 he has been a Cllr on Rhuddlan Town Council and has been a Governor of Ysgol Y Castell and is an active member of the Rhuddlan Dementia Friendly group helping to make Rhuddlan a more Dementia friendly place to live.
In his leisure time Cllr Elgin enjoys Crown Green Bowls at Club Bowlio Rhuddlan and Beach match fishing around the North Wales Coast.
Cllr Elgin is prepared for a very busy year and has chosen two good causes for which he wishes to raise money as his chosen charities. The first is The Royal British Legion who celebrate their Centenary this year and the second is St Kentigern’s.
