Switch on of Rhuddlan’s Christmas Lights
On a wet and cold late afternoon Rhuddlan residents and councillors gathered on the High Street for the annual switch on of Rhuddlan’s Christmas Lights at the Christmas Tree. Those who braved the weather were treated to some fantastic singing from a small choir from Ysgol Y Castell who helped put everyone in the Christmas Spirit. The Christmas lights were switched on by Toby Bywaters and Amelie Ashton who are head boy and head girl at Ysgol Y Castell.
Rhuddlan Mayor Mike Kermode said “The Christmas street lights and the lights on the tree have really brightened up Rhuddlan’s High Street and they do give a wonderful festive feeling on these dark winter nights. It was great to see how many people braved the cold and the rain and came along to see the lights switched on by the head girl and head boy from Ysgol y Castell – many thanks Toby and Amalie. Many thanks also to the other pupils from the school that gave us a number of traditional Christmas songs. Rev. Peter Mayo-Smith reminded us that the main focus of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus and there will be a number of services in St. Mary’s Church and at the various Chapels in Rhuddlan where people can do this with carols etc. People can also come along to the Community Centre on Saturday 16th December at 5pm for a carols service organised by the Town Council. There will be mince pies and mulled wine and Santa will be there as well. It might be only the start of December but I want to say an early Happy Christmas to everyone – Nadolig Llawen pawb.
