The 2023 Aelwyn Morgan Award
The Aelwyn Morgan Award is given annually by Rhuddlan Town Council to a person or persons who have done outstanding work in our local community. Aelwyn Morgan was a former head teacher of Ysgol Y Castell and was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his commitment to our community was significant, this award remembers him.
The council is delighted to announce that the 2023 winner is Richard Polden. Richard has volunteered with the RNLI since 1973 and is currently the chairperson for the Rhuddlan Local History Society and is the secretary and treasurer of the Rhuddlan Community Group. Richard was nominated by a number of local residents, some of their comments are shown below:
“Richard continues to amazing work with the RNLI, Rhuddlan Local History Society and Rhuddlan Community Group whist still recovering from a serious accident”
“Richard has great dedication and energy in all his voluntary work and encourages people with his very positive outlook”
Mayor Cllr. Mike Kermode said “One of my key themes is to praise the excellent work being done in Rhuddlan by so many volunteers. Richard Polden is a super example of this in the work that he does with Rhuddlan Community Group and Rhuddlan History Society, as well as providing support for other groups. This is exactly the type of community service that the Aelwyn Morgan award was designed to celebrate.”.
Richard was presented with the award by Mayor Cllr. Mike Kermode at the council’s September council meeting. Pictured below is Richard and Mayor Cllr. Mike Kermode.
