At the May AGM of Rhuddlan Town Council Cllr Val Simmons was appointed Mayor of Rhuddlan and following in her Dad’s footsteps Cllr Jackie Burnham was appointed Deputy Mayor.
Val was brought up in Prestatyn before moving to Rhyl where she married David back in 1974. They moved to Rhuddlan in November 2011 and it was one of the best things they ever did, they both love Rhuddlan, saying it is both friendly and welcoming and has a very supportive community with lots of things to do.
She has been a Rhuddlan Town Councillor since May 2022, Deputy Mayor 2023/2024 and is looking forward to being Mayor for the next 12 months. Val is the Volunteer Group Coordinator for the Conwy & Denbighshire MS Group and also sits on the MS Cymru Council of Wales.
Val and David will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in September and have two sons and two grandsons. Most people know Val from the time she was the Operations Manager at the Pavilion Theatre Rhyl for 28 years. Val’s interests of course are going to the Theatre to see Musicals, Concerts and all the Strictly Dance Shows.
Jackie has lived in Rhuddlan for over 50 years. Jackie is married with grown up twins and is the owner of Rejuva Beauty Clinic on Rhuddlan High Street, she has previously won numerous food awards for Java Square Café and Bistro, attracting many visitors to the town. Jackie has worked as a volunteer in Rhuddlan for many years; before becoming a Town Councillor, she re-established 3rd Rhuddlan Guides, helping girls build confidence, learn new skills and discover who they want to be. Jackie has continued to support young people with work opportunities to build on their learning and experience after school and college.
Jackie has been a member of Rhuddlan Town Council for over 12 years and represents the Council on the Board of Governors at Ysgol Y Castell where she was appointed Chair of Governors last year.
