Places for Nature – 2022 Applications
Great news – Applications for Local Places for Nature have re-opened. Over the last few years more than 800 community green spaces across Wales have been created, restored and enhanced. Community groups and organisations of all shapes and sizes got involved – from disability charities and youth groups to social enterprises and carer groups.
Now, thanks to support from Welsh Government, we’ve got hundreds more packages available. This is your chance to reverse nature’s decline and provide an important boost to the well-being of your local community at the same time.
This year there is an easy online application process and Keep Wales Tidy will handle the orders and deliveries and we’ll even provide support on the ground.
Our packages this year fall into three categories:
- Starter Packages – These starter packages are open to all community and volunteer groups – you don’t even need a bank account or constitution to apply – There are three set garden packages to choose from. Each one includes all the native plants, tools and materials you’ll need; guidance on how to install the garden, and a small amount of Keep Wales Tidy officer time to provide extra advice and support.
- Development Packages – Available as either a food growing or wildlife garden each development package is designed for community-based organisations looking to create larger-scale projects. Great news is that all sorts of community organisations can apply from social enterprises, youth groups and faith groups, to charities and registered social landlords. Our two development packages have been designed to not only give nature a helping hand but also benefit people’s health and well-being. The aim is to bring communities together, encourage people to volunteer outdoors and create green spaces for everyone to enjoy, what’s not to like!!
- Community Orchard – Create an outdoor hub for your community, a space filled with fruit and nut trees, native plants and wildflowers where people of all ages can come together.

In 2022-23, priority will be given to projects in urban, deprived areas with little or no access to nature. We’re also really keen to welcome applications from underrepresented groups across Wales.
