Rhuddlan’s Positive Action for Strokes Group and GEM’s Lunch Club Celebrating the Chinese New Year thanks to the Fei Von Restaurant

To celebrate the 2023 Chinese New Year of the Rabbit, the Fei Voi Chinese Restaurant in Rhuddlan kindly offered to provide a delicious banquet of food for members of Rhuddlan’s Positive Action for Stroke Group and GEM’s Lunch Club.

Jessica Tran Tsang from the Fen Voi Chinese restaurant in Rhuddlan said that in Chinese Society highly respect the elderly and she and her team were very keen to celebrate their new year with these local groups.  Jessica said the team had a fabulous time eating and chatting together and had also learnt a few new dancing moves.

Mayor Mike Elgin was invited to attend one of the events and said the food was fabulous and the group really enjoyed the event.  Mike was keen to thanks Jessica, Alita and Nathan from the Fen Voi for their kind gesture.  He also thanks Shelia Tagholm who runs the Stroke Group supported by the volunteers from the Community Centre.

Deputy Mayor Mike Kermode, who regularly attends GEM’s Lunch Club highly praised Jessica for providing a delicious lunch and to GEM’s which is run by Community Centre Volunteers Gill, Ellen and Maggie for all their hard work.  These two events highlight why Rhuddlan is such a great place to live with many volunteers giving their time to help others supported by great local businesses like the Fei Von Chinese Restaurant.

Shelia Tagholm said that the Stroke club was set up in 2008 for stroke survivors in Rhuddlan and surrounding areas. The aim of the club was to provide a friendly and supportive environment for people in various stages of stroke recovery. The club meets every Wednesday in the Community Centre in Rhuddlan.

Since 2008, the club has evolved and now is more inclusive. Several of the current membership have not suffered a stroke but have other disabilities. On a Wednesday a two course meal is provided and other refreshments during the day. The cost of the day is £7.00 which includes catering costs, accommodation costs and the cost of activity leaders. There is a craft group and also a gentle exercise group. All activities are optional.

The Volunteers who run the club are conscious that the members are individuals but often with shared experiences. The atmosphere is light-hearted and the members have lots of fun.
