2021 Aelwyn Morgan Award
The 2021 Aelwyn Morgan Award goes to joint winners: Mrs Sandra Jones and Mrs Awen Roberts & Mr Arwel Roberts for their hard work in the community.
Mrs Sandra Jones is a very popular character within the community and her role delivering prescriptions for the local chemist goes far beyond that. She checks in on people, shows kindness, brightens up their day and uses her own time to assist them, for example picking up groceries or other much needed items and dropping them off. Sandra is described as a ray of sunshine. Her bubbly personality is infectious and brings joy to all she meets.
As well as being County Councillor and Town Councillor for many years, Arwel has a number of voluntary roles which go beyond being a councillor. For example. Arwel is Chairman of the Rhuddlan Dementia group which is making excellent progress in making Rhuddlan a dementia friendly town. Work is now progressing in the Nature Reserve to provide a sensory garden for those living with dementia.
Both Awen & Arwel work hard in fundraising for local causes and also fundraising for the National Urdd and Eisteddfod. Awen is involved with the popular Y Glannau Magazine helping out with reporting, editing and translating. Both Awen & Arwel willingly soldiered on as Mayor and Mayoress for a second year in office, right through the worse of the pandemic and are fully deserving of being recognised.
The Mayor, Cllr Mike Elgin that the recipients are “ so deserving of this award and who are a credit. Rhuddlan is very lucky to have such committed volunteers”.
