New Mayor and Deputy Mayor 2022-2023

At the May AGM of Rhuddlan Town Council Cllr Mike Elgin was elected Mayor for a second year. At the same meeting Cllr Mike Kermode was elected Deputy Mayor.

Mike Elgin said  “I am delighted and humbled to be Mayor of Rhuddlan for a second successive year. Being mayor is a great honour, and I’d like to thank my fellow Councillors for entrusting me to represent our wonderful Rhuddlan community. I’d also like to pay tribute to Andrew Smith who was my Deputy last year for his support during 2021 which was difficult at times due to the restrictions.

This year I hope to focus on continuing Rhuddlan’s Town plan which is helping to improve the Town for the local community. The completion of our new Community facility at Admirals field will be a highlight of my term this year. My wife Marianne has agreed to be my consort again.

My charities for the year will be all local ones to support the fantastic organisations in Rhuddlan who do so much for everyone- These being The Community Centre, The Stroke Club, The Dementia Group and St Marys Church”

 

Mike Kermode has been a Town Councillor for the past 8 years.  He is very knowledgeable about the workings of local government having been a senior manager with Clwyd and Flintshire County Councils for a number of years before he retired.  Mike has also worked as a business consultant and also worked as an assessor for a national quality standard.  He is married and has two daughters and four grand-children.

In addition to his work as a Town Councilor, Mike is the Secretary of Rhuddlan Dementia Group and organises many of the Group’s events that happen in the town.  As part of this work, he was successful in obtaining the external funding for the dementia friendly sensory area in the Nature Reserve.  Mike is also a member of the small voluntary group that organised the very successful food and craft festival that took place in Parliament Street mid-May.

Being elected as Deputy Mayor was a great honour to Mike, as he explained “Moving to live in Rhuddlan some 50 years ago was a massively positive step for me and my family.  It is a great place for us to live in and we enjoy being part of such a wonderful community.  The work that I do in the Town Council is very rewarding, especially when you see the many improvements that the Council does that benefit the people and the businesses here.  To be elected as Deputy Mayor by the Town Council is a great honour to me and I will be working hard to support the Mayor, Cllr. Mike Elgin, during the year ahead.”
