Speed Indication Devices on A547 Rhyl Road and A547 Abergele Road
In 2021, Rhuddlan Town Council in partnership with Denbighshire County Council installed two Speed Indication Devices (SID’s) as part of their commitment to improve pedestrian and road safety in the town. These devices located on Rhyl Road near Pentre Lane and Abergele Road near Morfa Lodge have resulted in a reduction of the average speed of cars using these roads.
Average speeds at the Rhyl Road location with a 30mph speed limit have dropped from 31mph to 25.9mph. The 85% speed* has dropped from 36.4mph to 30.9mph.
Average speeds at the Abergele Road location with a 40mph speed limit have dropped from 33mph to 30.3mph. The 85% speed* has dropped from 39mph to 31.1mph.
*The 85th percentile speed is the speed which 85% of the vehicles are not exceeding
Rhuddlan Town Council are going to install three further devices on roads in and out of the town later this year. This will further help to reduce speed on our main roads and are awaiting the roll out of the 20mph speed limit in urban areas across Wales.
