The 2022 Aelwyn Morgan Award
The Aelwyn Morgan Award is given annually by Rhuddlan Town Council to a person or persons who have done outstanding work in our local community. Aelwyn Morgan was a former head teacher of Ysgol Y Castell and was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his commitment to our community was significant, this award remembers him.
The council is delighted to announce that the 2022 winner is Brian Taylor. Brian was nominated by local resident Sue Butterworth who believed Brian deserved the award for his fantastic work in Rhuddlan and beyond. Sue recommended Brian for his efforts and hard work, not only for Love North Wales Community Support, but his consistent work and approach to improving peoples’ lives locally and those that result in living within our community due to their own personal challenges and those that find themselves migrating from war torn Ukraine. Brian works for five days a week taking no payment, working purely for the reward of helping others in need. He is steadfast in his convictions to provide assistance and help where it is needed.
Brian collects donations from all around the local community and beyond, then distributes to those in need; this may be a single item or even the furnishing of a full property. In addition to his work at Love North Wales Community Support he identified the need for a support group within the local community for those that need assistance and support in socialising; he set the ball rolling for the instigation of Rhuddlan Men’s Sheds where members are encouraged to connect, converse and create. Though still in its infancy, Brian has taken time to arrange for funding, local builders and members of the Shed to create their own space within the premises of Love North Wales Community Support and for local advice specialists to meet with members so they know their rights and what training courses are available to them.
Brian Is a deserving winner and was presented with this award by Rhuddlan Mayor Mike Elgin at the Council’s September meeting.
