Rememberance Sunday 2021

10.30 a.m. Parade to leave Rhuddlan Community Centre for a service in St Mary’s Church at 10.45 a.m. Return to the Cenotaph at Rhuddlan Community Centre for the laying of wreaths.

Rhuddlan Memory & Wellness Walk

We are leaving Rhuddlan Community Centre at 1-30pm then there’s a short walk down to the Nature Reserve. Down there you will hear how the Nature Reserve has developed over the past 10 years.

Open Doors 2021

This September, more than 150 of Wales’ historic sites, landmarks and hidden gems will offer visitors free entry, events or guided tours. It’s all part of Open Doors – Wales’ annual contribution to the European Heritage Days initiative.

New Defibrillators In Rhuddlan

Two new defibrillators have been installed in Rhuddlan; one in the library and one in Coed y Brain, Admirals Playing Field. This brings the total of defibrillators provided by the Town Council to four.

Rhuddlan Dementia Group

The last few weeks have seen some “ups” and “downs” for the Group.

The main “down” was the fact that we had to cancel the 2 events planned for Saturday 26th June – the Memory/Wellness walk to the Nature Reserve and the “Come and Meet Us” session in the Community Centre; which would also have involved a number of other community groups.

FREE Leaflet Distribution Service

Did you know that Denbighshire’s Tourism Department offer a FREE leaflet distribution service to order leaflets from?  These leaflets are to provide information for visitors and to enhance their stay. 

Libraries Open Up For Browsing Again

Local people in Denbighshire can now visit their local library to browse, choose and return books without an appointment. They will still need to make an appointment to use a library computer, book a study space and to access One Stop Shop services by phoning their local library. Libraries are a safe place to visit with plenty of room for social distancing, limited numbers of people in at any time, and hand and equipment sanitiser available.

Dog Fouling – The Facts

One of the main causes of irritation to everyone – including many dog owners – is dog fouling in public places. Everyone has to share the same recreational space and there is nothing worse than having to constantly look for dog poo to prevent you or your children stepping or even falling into it. It is a real health hazard to leave it where it lies – on pavements, in parks and playgrounds and it is also against the law.

Rhuddlan Library and One Stop Shop Opening Hours

You can now visit your local library to browse, choose, collect and return your books without an appointment during the current opening times.
You will need to make an appointment to use a computer and print, to use a study space, and to access One Stop Shop services so that we can make sure there’s enough room to keep everyone safe. Please phone your local library to make an appointment. Computer sessions are currently limited to 1 hour. You will need your library card number to book a computer session.

Help us to keep Rhuddlan clean & tidy | meeting at Rhuddlan Community Centre 24/07/2021 at 10am – 12pm | Tea & Coffee available in the Community Centre after the pick.

Rhuddlan’s Lunch Club Re-opens

The fortnightly lunch club in Rhuddlan’s Community Centre has now restarted after being suspended for over a year because of the Covid-19 lockdowns. The lunch club’s main organiser, Gill Price, says it was great to welcome people back because they have really missed the opportunity to meet up and to have a chat with others over a lunch-time session.

Launch of Dark Night Skies Consultation

A public consultation has been launched on ‘Planning for Dark Night Skies: Supplementary Planning Guidance for lighting in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”
Denbighshire County Council in partnership with Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are seeking views on a draft Supplementary Planning Guidance note (SPG) for lighting in the AONB.

EU Settlement Scheme Application Deadline (30th-June)

The EU Settlement Scheme which was set up under the terms of the UK’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, applies to citizens of the EU and EFTA who came to the UK before the end of the Brexit Transition period at the end of December 2020. Similar arrangements apply for UK citizens who are living and working in continental Europe.

Launch of Carers Week

The launch of Carers week took place Monday 7th June in Rhuddlan Nature Reserve. In attendance was Dr James Davies MP, Cllr Christine Marston Vice Chair Denbighshire County Council, Cllr Ann Davies Denbighshire’s Carers Champion, The Mayor of Rhuddlan Cllr Mike Elgin and his Consort, Cllr Bobby Feeley Lead member for Well-being and Independence, representatives of NEWCIS and Carers and their families. 

Denbighshire Encouraging Businesses To Apply For Grant Funding

Further covid-19 funding is now available for the hospitality, tourism and leisure sector. Denbighshire County Council will help administer the Welsh Government funds for businesses impacted during Alert Level 2 restrictions. Businesses with a turnover greater than £85,000 can apply through the Welsh Government’s Business Wales platform while those with a turnover less than £85,000 can apply through the Council.

The second phase of an active travel consultation has been launched in Denbighshire. Denbighshire County Council is working with Sustrans Cymru as part of the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Network Map consultation on improvements to walking and cycling routes in the county.

Cllr Mike Elgin was installed as Mayor at Rhuddlan Town Council’s AGM on 13th May 2021. He expressed his thanks to all the Town Councillors for their trust in him and thanked Cllr Arwel Roberts retiring Mayor for his dedication and hard work during his 2 Years in Office.

Coed y Brain Community Facility

The Town Council has very recently purchased a property which used to be the Munchkins Nursery by the Admirals Playing Fields. Work will soon be underway to carry out adaptations to provide toilets, changing room, meeting room and refreshment area.

Aelwyn Morgan Award 2021

The Aelwyn Morgan Award is given annually by Rhuddlan Town Council in memory of a former Head Teacher of Ysgol y Castell. Mr Aelwyn Morgan was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his personality commanded great respect and admiration in many spheres.

Amazing Historical Discovery On Our Very Own Doorstep

A county councillor’s determination has led to the discovery of a 9,000 year-old encampment “on a par with the oldest proven mesolithic site” in Wales. The site, on Castle Hill, off Hylas Lane in Rhuddlan, yielded a total of 314 stone artefacts on a site which is believed to have been a sandy-ridge overlooking the floodplain of the Afon Clwyd.
